2015, New Year Revolution & Setting Your Fitness Goals: Update 1/2/2016 by Kevin Angileri

fitness goals

January 2nd, 2016.
Well, here we are again. This article was written in December 2014 with an update on January 23rd, 2015. How was your 2015? I hope you accomplished many of your goals. Now, it is time, to start all over again. I am really looking forward to 2016. With all my past failures, I believe this is my year to shine. Let’s make history together. I have 4 or 5 vices, but only 2, I want to work on here. First and foremost is that I am addict for cigarettes. I have been smoking for 60 years. I have COPD, but doing well. No Oxygen yet. My other vice is food. I generally eat really good food. Low fat, no sugar to speak of, but on occasion, I fall off the wagon. Ice cream is the number culprit. Bread is another.
This is my plan. For 30 days, I will not have a single puff of a cigarette and I will eat only good food and a lot less of it. I plan on losing at least 10 pounds in the next 30 days. That is not a great feat, considering, I now weigh 249 pounds and I am 5’9″ tall. I took a pretty disgusting side view picture of myself, today. 90 days from today, I will post it along with current picture, so all can see, if I succeeded or failed.
Good luck to all of you and Happy New Year.

1/23/2015:  We hope everyone is doing well on their New Years’s Revolution.  Unfortunately, I have not been doing as good as I hoped.  I have lost focus and motivation and I need help to get back on the wagon.  Maybe, some of you have had the same problem.  I have been on a few sugar binges and put myself on the usual “guilt trip”.  Pistachio muffins have been my downfall.  Were they worth it?  Truthfully, they were very good.  But now, realization has set in and I need to get back to the goals, I have set for 2015.  So, today is a brand new day of a brand new year.  If you have fallen, as I did, then today is the day to start anew.  Good luck to all of us.  If you have any suggestions, please send them in.  We need all the help, we can get.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

No, I did not make a mistake.  I meant Revolution.  Most of us make New Year Resolutions and we try really hard to live up to the.  Some are about losing weight, quitting smoking, getting more exercise and any number of other things, we want to do starting the New Year.  Most of those resolutions last a month or two, at best.  We generally fall back to doing the same things again.

Setting Fitness Goals In New Year:

This year, 2015, I suggest a change.  Let this be the year of revolution.  The year, you make a difference in your total being.  The year, you make you body as perfectly healthy as you can.  The year, you allow you body to heal itself, after many years of feeding it unhealthy foods and preventing it from healing.  Your body is a wondrous mechanism.  It can cure itself.  It doesn’t need any doctors or medications.  All it needs is good nourishment.  Feed it good foods and let it works wonders.

This is not about fad diets and exercise programs.  We have been feeding our bodies all the wrong things.  Cheeseburgers, French fries, tacos, pizza, and all the processed foods are stopping our bodies from keeping us healthy.  We drink all kinds of drinks that are loaded with processed sugars and empty calories, and expect our bodies to thrive.  Instead of thriving, we contract diseases like Obesity, Diabetes, Heart disease, just to name a few.  Our bodies are begging for help, so they can do what they do best, heal themselves of these terrible diseases.

So, here is our 2015 Revolution.  Make this the year, to learn how to feed your body what it needs, to work it’s magic and bring back your health.  It won’t happen overnight and it will not be easy.  Don’t forget, it has taken many years for you to develop whatever diseases, you have.  How many years have you been eating processed foods and drinking sugar loaded drinks.  It has taken years to strip your body of it’s curative powers.  Here comes the good news.

It won’t take long for you body to regain it’s strength.  Once it has, you will see you health change in a matter of a few months.  You will start to feel better within a week or two.  In six months, you will be able to do things, you have not done in years.  You will have more energy than you have had it years.  Your skin will get back it’s glow.  In one year, your body can and will free you of most disease.  Note:  You should consult with your doctor before embarking on any lifestyle changes.  Keep taking any medication until your body has time to work it’s wonders and you doctor says it is okay for you to stop.  Seeking the help of a Certified nutritionist is a great idea.

Learn as much as possible about the foods that nourish your wonderful body.  Become an expert about your bodies’ needs and any disease, you may have.  Learn what nutrients your body needs.  The more you learn and put into practice, the faster you will regain your health.  There are hundreds or possibly thousands of diets around and they all work.  Well, they work for a while anyway.  If you feed your body properly, you will not have to diet ever again.  Your body knows, how much you should weigh.  Feed it well, and let it work.

My wish for all of you is this.  May 2015 be the year, your body gives you the healthy life, you deserve.

Free Clinical Diabetes And Weight Loss Tests

Clinical Diabetes & Weight Loss Trials – How They Help You Saving Money:

Across the U.S and around the world, there are clinics doing drug and other free testing.  In most cases, they pay you to take their studies.  That’s right, they pay you.  As  an example, I go to a clinic to participate in a drug study for my COPD.  They provide me with medication and pay me for each visit.  It is a year long study and I get paid to participate and they provide my medication. that would cost me approx.  $145.00 per month (my medical co-pays).  Total saving to me of $1750.00, not including what they pay me.

Some studies are a short as 3 months and up to 2 or 3 years.  This is how new drugs get approval for sale in the particular country they are being tested.  Before any human is given these new drugs, they must have a complete physical examination and be tested to see if they qualify to take the test.  You need to have a specific disease to qualify.  In my case, I have COPD.  This is the second study, I have done and I have never had a problem.

In some of these test, patients are either given a medication or a placebo.  Although, some studies give one medication, that is currently being sold and the other is the new tested medication.  These are called “blind studies”.  I prefer going to a study that gives either Medication now on the market and the new tested medication.

The clinic that I go to has many studies for different diseases.  They are thorough and pass on any medication info to your present doctors, so your doctors are aware of any medication you are taking.  In my case, my cardiologist, my pulmonary and primary doctors have be notified that I am taking this test and what medications, I am receiving.

How To Find Clinical Trial Centers In Your Area?

In the U.S., you can check on the website Clinical Trial.Gov.   I am enrolled at Clinical Advantage Research in Chandler, Arizona.  You can check the internet to look up clinical trials in your own country.  They are worthwhile to look into.  You can save on your medication costs and may find a medication, that works better than you current meds.  There are many varied tests being conducted for many different conditions.  COPD, Diabetes, Weight Loss,Alzheimer’s, Cancer, Mental health and Vision, just to name a few.

There are currently over 184,000 studies going on in 187 countries.

Healthy Holiday Eating Plans For Thanksgiving & Christmas

Healthy Holiday Eating Plans For Thanksgiving And Christmas.

Update 01/13/15.  I hope all the Holidays went well for all of you.  It was a great Holiday season for me.  Congrats to those, who maintained or even lost weight.  Unfortunately, I did fall off the wagon, the last two weeks of December.  It was so difficult to pass up on all the goodies.  I did not gain a lot of weight, but my body sure felt the difference.  If the same happened to you, just get back on track.  I have been loading up on veggies and avoiding as much bad stuff as possible.  I am completely off sodas (both w/sugar and sugar free and caffeine free).  Good luck on 2015.  Eat healthy to stay healthy.

Update for Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day.  I certainly did.  I trust, you all enjoyed all the great food.  As for me, I did follow my own plan, and did not overdo it.  One dinner plate full of great food and most of it was really healthy.  No seconds, which even surprised me.  I did have one glitch.  A second (small) piece of apple pie.  I was on a guilt trip for at least 5 minutes.  If you did eat more than you thought, you should have, don’t fret about it.  It is over and done with, and now we can look forward to Christmas dinner.  You have almost 4 weeks to prepare.  Good luck to all of us.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________

There is not any question about it.  For all of us, who are either trying to lose weight or maintain self-control over our blood sugar, November and December are the toughest months of the year.  Can’t you just picture, in your mind, what those tables will look like?  Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, mashed potatoes and gravy, Green bean casserole with bacon, mac and cheese and list is endless.  Then. after all that, out come the pies and cakes and all the rest.  This will be a test of your fortitude and inner strength.  You can do it.  Remember, David killed Goliath, Rocky beat Apollo and the Roadrunner beat Wiley Coyote, and you can win too.  I might have stepped over the line, with Roadrunner, but I was going for the laugh.

Healthy Holiday Eating Plans

Well, stop worrying, make a healthy holiday eating plan & a course of action for these two holiday seasons.  There are so many things, you can do, to prepare.  The goal here is, that on January first 2015, you will be about the same weight or (with great planning) a bit less.  You have about three weeks for planning and about five weeks to execute.

Over the next three weeks, you can get mentally prepared.  You can try to lose an extra two or three pounds before Thanksgiving.  Here are a few tips that may make for an easier holiday season.

On Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve an Christmas day, drink plenty of water.  First for hydration and water will fill you up.

Let’s not kid ourselves, we want to try all that great food.  So instead of torturing ourselves, let’s try a little of everything.  One full size dinner plate should do it.  Fill that dish up with a little of everything including salad.  Little tastes of everything you love.  Oh, wait a minute !!  One level please, not five or six inches high.  We are building a perfect holiday dinner plate, not the Empire State Building.   Good job, you can be proud of yourself.

Now it is dessert time.  OMG, now what do we do?   Cakes and pies and ice cream and every concoction know to man, of things made of sugar.  Even I am having a hard time dealing with dessert.  A little common sense will come in handy.  Grab a small salad or dessert plate, for starters.  Take a few deep breathes and choose wisely.  Half the plate will do fine and one layer high.

I hope, we all succeed in maintaining our weight and blood sugar.

Taking Responsibility For Your Health

I don’t know why, we are so concerned about our health.  Whatever is wrong with us, our doctors can fix.  They have a myriad of drugs that cure any and all diseases.  I know people, who have three or four and even five different illnesses and the doctor is taking care of all of them.  The Diabetes doctor gives us Insulin by pill or injection.  The heart doctor gives us cholesterol medication or blood thinners, etc.  The cancer doctors give us Chemotherapy and Radiation.  The Arthritis doctor gives us steroids and Cortisone.  These medical professionals have cures for all diseases.  If you firmly believe that, then your next doctor visit should be to a Head doctor.  It is just not happening.  Doctors mostly treat symptoms of diseases.

You are one of the most perfect organisms in the world.  Your body and brain are perfect.  Your body has the ability to heal itself.  You have an immune system that cannot fail.  All you have to do, is nurture your body and brain, so that it can do the job that it was intended to do.  That job is to keep you have a healthy and long life.  Everything is there inside your body.  Your brain, heart, liver, kidneys, lungs and all the other parts of the human anatomy.  They are all there to help you live the wonderful life you deserve.

Taking Responsibility For Your Health

Unfortunately, we don’t know how to nurture our own body, properly.  It seems that we are too busy doing other things, rather than learn how to let our fantastic self,  fix our ailments.  We will attend schools for 20 or 25 years to learn how to earn wealth.  We will work for another 40 years to attain wealth and be able to retire.  Most of us will not spend any time learning how to be and stay healthy.  Now at the time, when we should be enjoying the fruits of our labor, we are gravely ill with one or more debilitating diseases.  Who would have thought?  It was us, who did not think.

It is just to easy to go out for fast food.  Too easy to not exercise.  Too easy to not get enough rest.  Too easy to not exercise our brain.   So now, we are in bad health.  The good news is that we can reverse our bad health and start getting healthier.  It is not “too late”.  Let me say that again.  It is not “too late”.

I am not talking about “fad diets” or crazy exercise programs.  Your body can cure itself.  You just have to feed it the right foods.  Now, before I go any further, I must say this.  Your doctor is your first line of defense.  Before you start any new form of diet or exercise, you must consult with him.  He should be consulted before you change diet and exercise or stopping any medication you are presenting taking.

The next step is taking responsibility for your health, your brain and body.  Read and learn all you can about your disease or illness.  Educate yourself in the many ways. you can nurture your body with food.  Learn about the foods, you should not be eating.  Processed foods, sugars, fast foods and sodas.  Water, water and more water.  A great deal of your body is made up of water. and you need to replenish that lost water every single day.

Get as much information as you can.  Let me recommend several good documentaries.

Forks over knives

Fat Sick and nearly Dead

Hungry for Change

Vegucated

Fed Up

These movies will give you a lot of insight on what you are eating and what you should not be eating.

Can you remember, while you were growing up, you heard these phrases?  “You are what you eat”   “Eat to live, not live to eat”   “All you really have in this world is your health”   As you reach maturity, you will realize, how true these sayings are.   It is not too late for you to regain good health.  Today is a great day to start.

Moral: Be More Responsible About Your Health.

Good luck and God bless all of us. Kevin Angileri

The Quest for Wellness

Dealing with diabetes

Welcome back to CarbaholicsAnonymous.  We appreciate your loyalty to this site.

Whether you are here about weight loss or Diabetes, we try to keep you up on the latest information, to help you gain Wellness.

The Dictionary Definition Of Wellness:

The dictionary has 2 definitions for “Wellness”.

1. the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.

2. an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

Our goal is to aid you in achieving both definitions of Wellness, in an easy format.  Not a lot of medical jargon.  So, lets start with definition 1.

The key words, in definition 1 , are “deliberate effort”.  Read and learn as much as you can about any ailment, you may have.  Knowledge is Power.  The more you know about your ailment, the easier, it will become, to overcome it.  Most ailments can be overcome and cured.  It gets confusing at times, at times.  For instance, if you are on a quest for weight loss. there are hundreds, if not, thousands of weight loss diets.  Which one to choose?  If you are very overweight (50 pounds or more), first consult your doctor.  Because he or she knows your particular situation, and can direct you to a particular diet or even send you to a certified dietician.

Definition 2.  Yours and everyone’s goal is preventing illness and prolonging our lives.  It is exciting to see healthy people in their 90”s.  This is achievable to all of us.  It just take a little work and perseverance.  It is not magic.  The keys are being careful of what we eat and getting off our duffs and a bit of exercise.  It is a matter of developing new and better habits.  Many years ago, a friend said to me, there are 2 kinds of people in this world.  “Those, who live that eat to live and those, who live to eat”.  I was the latter.  Now, I try to “eat to live”.  Think hard about that.  Which are you?  Make the change, it is the most important thing, you can do.  Let your doctor treat your ailment, and give him all the help you can, by doing your part.

Here is the most difficult part of all of this.  Procrastination.  We have been living our lives so long, it is difficult and we say “Ok, I will start next week or Jan.1 of next year”.  Don’t procrastinate one more day.  Today is a great day to begin your quest for wellness.  Maybe, if you are strong and change some bad eating habits, by Jan 1, you will see some wonderful results.  It does not take a long time to get results.  I was going to say “Good luck”, but it is not a matter of luck.  Instead, “Good wellness”.
